A Benedictine Abbey was founded in 972 at Thorney by St Aethelwold. The construction was similar to those at the nearby abbeys at Peterborough, Crowland, Ely and Ramsey. The large Norman church, built from 1080, contained the relics of important Saints such as St Botolph and these attracted visitors and their donations. Further buildings were added from 1305 to 1323. The Sound system was installed following recommendations of the Sound system and loop system we had recently installed at Croyland Abbey.(Following this further recomendations took us to Church of the Good Shepherd Cambridge.) As usual all cables were hidden and disguised to match their surroundings and our specially imported loudspeakers were used for there small dimension and high sound quality.
